Mulloon Creek Natural Farms provide a national demonstration site for Natural Sequence Farming (NSF). The techniques promoted by Peter Andrews OAM are being used to rehabilitate the stream and floodplain back to a more natural state using technology available to farmers. Since the initial implementation in 2006, the Mulloon Creek has been returned from a dry creek that flowed only in high rainfall to a chain of ponds that constantly supplies clean water to the properties downstream. And the macroinvertebrate community is now more prolific, diverse and abundant than a comparable in-tact chain of ponds within the region. Read More

Biodynamic practitioners seek to understand and work with biological life forces ("biologically dynamic") as well as enhance their understanding of the mineral processes. Healthy soil is a prime basis for healthy plants, animals and people. Biodynamic farming practices are of an organic nature, not relying on bringing artificial fertilisers on to the farm, although some organic or natural mineral fertiliser may be necessary during the establishment phase. Biodynamic farms seek to enhance the soils structure and nutrient cycles as well as plant growth and development with the use of specific preparations which are made from farm-sourced materials. Developed and widely implemented by P.A. Yeomans in the 1950’s, Keyline is an ordered set of principles, techniques and systems for rural and urban landscapes to improve capture and storage of water as well as infiltration of water into soil to support soil building bio-systems.
Keyline Pattern Cultivation is used at MCNF to assist water infiltration into the soil and distribute water more evenly through our sloping pastures. Read More

This practice is often referred to by many names including Planned Grazing, Holistic Grazing, Time-control Grazing and Cell-Grazing. It uses management of grazing animal by controlling access to pasture to enhance the bio-systems associated with pasture plant recovery and diversity, nutrient cycling, water and nutrient infiltration and humus formation. Developed and implemented by Daryl Cluff and Colin Seis, Pasture Cropping aims to improve the abundance and vitality of soil microbial and fungi to improve pasture plant productivity. It uses a method of direct drilling of cereal crop into a dormant native pasture. This cropping method is always combined with grazing management. Read More
